Make Your Own - Wax Food Wraps

The first step in making wax wraps or food bags is choosing the right fabric. One hundred percent cotton is best, and you can find it in a wide range of patterns. We chose from patchwork fabrics that come in a suitable size and feature a variety of colorful motifs.
Cut the fabric into the sizes and shapes you need for your wraps. For example, if you know you’ll use one to cover a bowl, cut an outline that’s slightly larger so the wrap folds over the edges. If you use pinking shears when cutting, the fabric will fray less around the edges.
As for the wax, choose it in a solid form rather than in sheets. If you’re planning to make wraps just for yourself, this beeswax will be enough. For larger pieces of fabric, or several pieces, we recommend using more wax.
Tip: An eco-friendly food bag can make an interesting gift for loved ones.
HOW TO MAKE THEM:
Place the washed fabric, cut to the desired size, on parchment paper. Grate the beeswax with a grater. Sprinkle it evenly over the surface of the fabric and cover it with parchment paper. Set the iron to a medium setting and slowly move it over the paper until the melted wax covers the entire surface of the fabric. Slowly remove the parchment paper and leave the wax wrap to dry in the air for 30 min. Once it has cooled, the wrap is ready to use.

The beauty of wax wraps is that you can use them over and over again as food wraps or covers for containers and pots. You can wrap all kinds of food in them except meat and fish. Even bread will stay fresh longer in a wax wrap. The surface is easy to clean with a damp cloth and mild soap. And if your wrap wears out, simply grate a new layer of wax onto that spot and keep using it.
