Guide to Getting Started with Scrapbooking

What Is Scrapbooking?

We wouldn’t have guessed that this technique dates all the way back to the 15th century. But it does. Scrapbooking took shape and evolved during this period into what it is today. Although it began as a way to add personal notes to ordinary books, it gradually became a way to craft and express creativity in journals, notebooks, and albums.

It’s possible that each of us has a different idea of what scrapbooking means. Some people see this technique as simply sticking in photos and clippings, while others imagine a space filled with stickers, colorful tape, stamps, and calligraphy. The most ambitious might picture a handmade notebook or planner filled with pages made from different materials, cards, and stickers, simply something with plenty of room for creative self-expression.
All these approaches are right, because the world of scrapbooking holds an enormous range of possibilities for crafting and creativity.

How to Get Started With Scrapbooking

To get started, you’ll need a planner, notebook, or album where you can put your creative projects into practice. You can also make your own notebook (we’ll cover that another time :) ), but we decided to use the Art Creation Sketch Pad, which has a hard cover and thick pages.

Whether you get inspired before you start crafting by our photos, ideas online, or your own imagination is up to you. Before we started, we took a little trip into the deep waters of the internet and found a few interesting layouts, which we combined with our own ideas.

One great thing about scrapbooking is that you can layer different elements to create your own patterns and motifs. We chose a creative scrapbooking set, tore out part of a page, and used it as the background for our opening page. Metallic highlighters and washi tapes with floral motifs also played a big part in the decoration.

Creative time management...

Scrapbooking is a great way to keep time management from turning into boringly circling and checking off tasks. With just a few simple steps, you can create your own calendar with the columns, dots, or tasks you need, tailored just for you.

For writing and calligraphy, choose whatever you like to use most, pens, colored pencils, markers, even brushes. They’re all welcome in this technique. For our May calendar, we turned to a Sakura pen set, which we find the most comfortable to work with.

The advantage of a sketch pad is that you can choose as many pages as you need for each month. You can create your own space for to-do lists, lists, tasks, or things you need to do that month. It’s up to you whether you plan a week, two weeks, or just tasks for a specific occasion on one page (as we did). It all depends on your imagination and creativity.

Using only certain colors or shades can also be an interesting way to approach this technique. We tried to stick to light pink tones, which go with the color of the month. You can easily find all the cards, stickers, and stamps we used while crafting in our Scrapbooking section.
